Filming for the fourth series of Channel 4´s A Place in the Sun – Home or Away” started in April on the Costa Blanca and the filming for each property took nearly four hours. In between the setting up of each segment, Debbie George from Hot Property had a chance to speak with Jazmine Harman.
As well as a presenter, Jazmine worked as an Estate Agent in Portugal for three years and, when it comes to buying and selling, she gets just as excited has those that appear on the programme. As she told Debbie, she is in the process of moving herself, having just sold her London apartment and bought a house in Surrey.
Presenters: Jazmine (Overseas presenter) & Jonnie (UK presenter)
Sat by the pool of HP0878R, enjoying the late afternoon sunshine Jasmine said that she can see why many British enjoy buying homes here, as the Benissa Costa, Moraira coastal strip is very picturesque, with all the necessary amenities and services available. An obvious alternative to the Costa del Sol.
2: FOCUS ON BENISSA AND THE BENISSA COSTA
The Benissa Costa is the Coastal area of Spain, coming under the control of Benissa Town Hall and located some 5 to 6 km inland. It is bordered to the North by Moraira and to the South by Calpe, spanning the coast road which connects the two. It is divided into a number of Partidas or suburbs, such as Cap Blanc, Cala Baladrar, Cala Advocat, Cala Llobella, Cala Del Pinets, Calla la Fustera, Cala las Bassetes, all of which have either a cove, beach, or headland viewing point. The largest beach is Fustera and recent improvements include extended parking and a coastline walk on which are picnic sites and viewing points overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The coast road has a convenient number of small commercial sections with supermarkets, bars, restaurants, etc, with the side roads being where most residential properties can be found. The Benissa Costa is also the home of The San Jaime Golf Course and a number of private tennis and sport clubs.
The Cosmopolitan town of Benissa itself, which is dissected by the National Road N332, disguises the fact that, at its heart, is a wonderful historic old town with Cathedral square & fountains and numerous small squares and narrow streets. There are a number of Museums, a Franciscan Convent and cloisters. Benissa has many fiestas and cultural activities, particularly in the summer months, many of which are free.
The Bernia Mountain, with its Fortress-looking skyline of rugged pinnacles, overlooks the area and has a natural tunnel which passes right through the mountain, giving access to the viewpoint looking over the landscape beyond. The area also has many well-signposted hiking routes and is sparsely populated with Fincas and small hamlets, perfect for those looking to get away from it all. It is also home to a Donkey Sanctuary, an Iris Garden and there are a number of very Spanish restaurants & bars offering excellent value for money.
3: FOCUS ON JAVEA
Javea lies between the capes of San Antonio & La Nao and is flanked by the impressive Montgo Mountain, which resembles the head of an Elephant with the trunk stretching in to the sea. It is the most easterly point of the Valencian coastline. Javea has a varied landscape, ranging from large sandy beaches or small coves, to rugged mountains. Beautiful, modern facilities make Javea an appealing town & it has a large ex-pat community & many English-speaking businesses. Javea has three distinctive areas. 1) The historic old town is centred round the church of San Bartolomé – a fine example of late Gothic defensive architecture - surrounded by whitewashed houses, with iron grilles and golden Tosca stone porticos. Within easy walking distance, through the narrow streets, is the indoor market selling household goods, fruit, vegetables, meat & fresh fish delivered daily from 2) The fishing Port & Marina, with superb fish restaurants and a lovely promenade and beach, with pavement cafes & bars overlooking the sea. The attractive marina & modern yacht club has 300 berths & facilities for all types of water sports including sailing, fishing, scuba diving, water skiing & windsurfing. The Port area is bordered by streets with numerous shops, cafés, restaurants & businesses, all with apartments over. This gives a vibrant feel and there is a Spanish pavement culture well into the evenings. A short drive takes you to 3) The popular Arenal beach is the commercial & tourist centre of the town and is fringed by a pretty promenade with its fascinating shops and boutiques and a superb selection of bars & restaurants, offering national & international cuisine. The beautiful sandy beach has palm trees & play areas for children.
Javea has a 20 km coastline, washed by the clean, warm, blue Mediterranean Sea & stretching from the Cova Tallá to the Cala de la Granadella. It has an interesting mix of beaches, some soft and sandy, others small and shingled, bordered by pine trees and favoured by divers and, yet others, for naturists. There are also small coves at Portichol & La Sardinera.
