Granes is  a village of about 120 inhabitants and is situated in the area known as the ‘Haute Vallee’ of Aude.
The ‘Haute Vallee’ is an area of outstanding natural beauty and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. There are many species of wildflowers, including orchids and other indigenous varieties. Wildlife lives well in this area, including spectacular birds of prey.
 
At an altitude of approximately 360 metres above sea level, the village nestles on a plateau in the foothills of the Pyrenees, only 8km (5 miles) from the market town of Quillan.
 
The easiest way to get there is by plane then hire a car. With Carcassonne airport only 1½  hours away from the UK, its an easy journey and then the villa is only 1 hour by road from the airport. This makes it ideal for visiting friends and family.
 
Alternatively, you can fly to Barcelona (Girona) and then head north to Perpignan. From there head for Quillan and on to Granes. Journey time from Girona is about 2½ hours.
